All Hail Ale is a small independent micropub in a converted shopfront on Queens Road in Westbourne, and it has been serving proper beer since it first opened in October 2017. Polished wood floors and a handsome wooden bar set the scene inside, and the relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere is organised around a single priority: good beer, kept properly.
The beer
What's on the bar is always changing. Hand-pulled cask ales share space with a rotating range of craft kegs, almost all from independent breweries around the UK rather than the big national names, and as a LocAle supporter the pub rarely has a locally brewed pint far from the pumps. There's real cider too. A bottle shop counter carries beer, wine and spirits to take away, so the visit needn't finish when you leave.
The feel of the place
This is a genuine local in the best sense of the phrase: staff who are friendly and know their beer, live music now and then, and tap takeover nights that give newer or lesser-known breweries a turn in the spotlight. Dogs are welcome, and Wi-Fi is available for anyone settling in for the night. There's no kitchen at All Hail Ale, but the pizza takeaway next door covers anyone wanting food with their pint.
Before you visit
Hours differ from day to day: a later start on Monday to Wednesday, earlier from Thursday, and open from midday at the weekend, so check the current times before you go, particularly outside the busy evening period. Like any small independent pub, the beer list turns over week by week, and what's pouring today may have gone by the time you return.
