Each Friday display in the 2026 series is timed for 10pm. Turning up between 9pm and 9.30pm gives you a chance to find parking, stake out a spot and watch the seafront as daylight fades. On nights with unusual conditions the start can move, so check official channels if the forecast looks unsettled.

The series covers six consecutive Fridays: 24 and 31 July, followed by 7, 14, 21 and 28 August 2026. Landing on the bank holiday weekend, the 28 August finale is usually the most crowded night of the run.

Yes, entirely. Organised by BCP Council's events team, the displays can be watched at no cost from the beach, the promenade, the approach to the pier and the clifftops above. There are no tickets, no need to book and no paid viewing enclosures.

They are set off over the water from the seafront just to the east of Bournemouth Pier. Any spot with an unobstructed line of sight between the pier and Boscombe gives a good view, and standing on the beach east of the pier brings you nearest to the launch.

For proximity, choose the beach east of the pier. The pier approach gives the classic shot with the illuminated pier in view, the East Cliff offers an elevated panorama over the bay, and Key West on the pier provides a table right above the water. From the town centre and railway station, it's roughly a ten-minute downhill walk through the gardens to the seafront. On warm Fridays car parks fill up, and the whole crowd departs at once once the display ends, so travelling by bus is the sensible choice, with late services and cheap single fares into the centre. Drivers are better off parking towards the edge of town and covering the final stretch on foot.

Many families make an occasional late night of it: a late-afternoon spell on the beach, an early dinner, then a wander along the promenade until the display begins. Ear defenders suit children sensitive to noise, and pushing a buggy along the promenade east of the pier avoids the densest crowds.

Fireworks unsettle most dogs, and the central beaches carry summer dog restrictions in any case, so leaving your dog at home on a Friday evening is usually kinder. For a dog that truly isn't bothered by loud bangs, the promenade further east offers distance from the launch point while keeping the view.
