Bournemouth's town centre and Lower Gardens take on a festive glow from mid-November for the Christmas Market and Alpine Village, one of the south coast's biggest seasonal draws.
What to expect
Wooden chalets line up in rows selling gifts, crafts, mulled wine and street food, while an Alpine-style bar lends winter evenings a cosy, après-ski feel. Lights are strung across the gardens, with fairground rides and family attractions usually joining the mix.
Making an evening of it
After dark is when the market really comes alive, as the lights combine with the town's Christmas Tree Wonderland trail to turn a walk through the gardens into the highlight of a festive visit.
Planning your visit
December weekends and the run-up to Christmas bring the biggest crowds to the town centre, so arrive early or aim for a midweek visit for a calmer wander. Dress warmly, since much of the market runs outdoors across the gardens and squares.
