Camden Bar & Kitchen is a small independent bar in the centre of Westbourne, on Seamoor Road, exactly the sort of neighbourhood place locals have in mind when they describe Westbourne as an "urban village." Open since 2010, it sums up its own approach bluntly: "we don't do fast food, we do good food, good drinks, and good times."
Food and drink
The kitchen aims for simple rather than elaborate, with burgers at the heart of the menu and a dependable drinks list of cocktails, beer and wine to go with them. It's set up for a relaxed bite and a decent drink rather than a formal sit-down dinner. Happy hour runs every day from 4pm to 7pm, when cocktails are priced at 2-4-£15, which makes it as popular after work as it is later in the evening.
Atmosphere
During the day Camden is laid-back, somewhere to settle in with a coffee, a burger or the first drink of the night. On Friday and Saturday nights a resident house DJ takes over and the pace lifts, making the bar one of Westbourne's busier weekend spots. There's outdoor seating too, so you can watch Westbourne's small high street go by instead of sitting indoors.
Good to know
You can walk in for most visits, but Camden also takes bookings and can organise private hire for groups of more than six by phone or email. The rest of Westbourne's independent shops and cafes are a short walk away, and the clifftop and beach at Alum Chine are not far off.
