Cosy Club occupies a handsome building on Old Christchurch Road in the very centre of Bournemouth, serving its signature all-day menu. It belongs to a long-established national group with a knack for turning grand old premises into flamboyant, welcoming dining rooms, and this branch fills three floors only minutes from the Lower Gardens and the seafront.
What to eat
Service runs from morning until late, so it suits breakfast and brunch, a slow lunch or a proper dinner. British comfort classics anchor the menu, but it stretches further: burgers, sandwiches and a generous selection of tapas to share, plus an extensive brunch list. Vegan and gluten-free menus accompany the main one, and there is a children's menu, which keeps mixed groups happy. Drinks matter here too, with crafted cocktails, coffee and cake, wines and a good spread of draught beer, cider and ale. Menus change seasonally, so check the restaurant's website for current dishes and any bottomless brunch offers.
The interior
The decor is what gives Cosy Club both its name and its reputation. It is happily eccentric: mismatched furniture ranging from worn club chairs and sleek 1930s sofas to plain dining chairs, all beneath teardrop chandeliers, clashing lampshades and enormous portrait paintings. Velvet curtains echo the Pavilion Theatre nearby, and the result lands somewhere between a faded gentlemen's club and a village hall given a knowing makeover. It is atmospheric, slightly theatrical and truly comfortable, for a long catch-up or a quiet coffee alike.
The highlight is The Deck, a third-floor rooftop terrace with its own bar and an Art Deco character. When the weather warms up the doors slide open to create an airy outdoor space above the street, much in demand for private parties and celebrations.
Finding it
Cosy Club is at 30-34 Old Christchurch Road, BH1 1LG, on one of the main pedestrian streets through the centre. The Square, the Lower Gardens and the beach are a short walk away, and Bournemouth railway station and the bus network are within reach. It has no dedicated car park, though public and multi-storey parking is plentiful nearby; our Bournemouth area guide covers getting around the centre.
Practical details
This is an easy-going place that welcomes everyone: dogs are allowed in the bar area, access is step-free, and there's free WiFi for those staying a while. Walking in is fine, but it's worth reserving for weekends, brunch and larger tables, and The Deck must be booked ahead for private use. Diners in the town rate it consistently well, and its central spot pairs neatly with a day at the beach or in the gardens.
