Opposite the Sainsbury's Local on Christchurch Road in Southbourne, and just a short walk from Pokesdown station, Darcy's Bar & Kitchen operates as a family-run bistro bar. Sarah and Wayne, who also run nearby Burbs Kitchen Event Catering, took over running it in October 2025, a change of ownership that has left the venue's relaxed, come-as-you-are character untouched.
Food and drink
Breakfast and brunch anchor the morning and early afternoon menu, pancakes, avocado on toast, homemade granola and croissants, complemented by a full lunch offering. From Thursday to Saturday, the kitchen switches to tapas and small plates in the evening, while Sunday brings a classic roast, with breakfast available first thing and lunch service continuing into the afternoon. The bar pairs handcrafted cocktails and mocktails with Darcy's own house-blend coffee, and happy hour runs daily between 5pm and 7pm.
Atmosphere and events
Roughly 40 seats fill the interior, with another 20 spots available in the garden, and the overall vibe leans relaxed rather than formal, both dogs and families are made welcome. Beyond day-to-day service, a full events calendar runs alongside it: a quiz on the month's first Thursday, card bingo on the fourth, live music, occasional drag bingo and themed nights, plus a seasonal Moules & Frites night each autumn and winter. The venue also accepts bookings for private hire.
Good to know
A 5-star food hygiene rating applies to Darcy's. Its hours run Monday to Wednesday 8am-3pm, Thursday to Saturday 8am-10pm and Sunday 9am-5pm, stretching to 7pm on summer Sundays. No dedicated car park exists, though the venue sits on a bus route close to Southbourne's high street, with on-street parking available nearby. Because hours and the events schedule can shift, it's worth checking the website or calling ahead before visiting.
