Nursery Garden is a small community garden on the Boscombe/Springbourne side of Bournemouth. It is nothing like the formal seafront Boscombe Chine Gardens close by: rather than a park for wandering through, this is a working plot managed by the local charity Grounded Community, one of a wider set of growing spaces the charity uses to produce food and bring people together across the area.
What happens here
In 2022 volunteers put up a polytunnel here, and it is now where plug plants are raised before moving on to Grounded Community's other sites, such as the Churchill Gardens Growzone, or to local back gardens looked after by the charity's "Grounded Growers." Two bee hives on the plot are used for educational bee experiences with children from the area, and there is a small microgreens project as well as compost storage fed by a rocket composter. A mature sycamore casts shade across the site, which makes it a poor spot for outdoor annual vegetables, so volunteers have tried growing mushrooms instead.
Visiting
There is no charge at Nursery Garden, but access is permissive rather than fully public; treat it as a working piece of Grounded Community's growing network rather than a visitor attraction in its own right. Anyone keen to volunteer or book a children's bee session should contact Grounded Community first. It is one of a number of community-run green spaces around the bay; find more in our guide to things to do in Bournemouth.
