Winton Recreation Ground, a Green Flag Award-winning community park, lies on Fitzharris Avenue in Winton, a residential part of north Bournemouth. It stands as the only significant green space across roughly a square mile of surrounding streets, and it fits a great deal into that footprint, functioning more as a hub for local sport and day-to-day recreation than as a draw for visitors after sea views.
What's on site
Six tennis courts here are home to Winton Tennis Club, founded in 1991, and there's a bowling green for Richmond Park Bowls Club, plus a cricket pitch and a cycle track, alongside a children's play area, woodland and open grassed playing fields. Volunteers running Winton Park Café on behalf of The Parks Foundation serve cakes, sandwiches and light lunches daily from 9am to 4.30pm, with step-free access and accessible seating.
Getting there
There's no charge for entry and access stays open throughout. Two free car parks serve the ground, reached from Maxwell Road or Fitzharris Avenue, with further street parking close by. Dogs can roam the grass freely and are welcome on leads within the café.
